Anger - your fierce protector!

Anger is not talked about much in positive terms. We often confuse anger with violence. When violence is a behaviour, anger is a feeling. And it can be a really good feeling too. It motivates, brings energy, has power and is absolutely empowering in its protectiveness. But the UNHEALTHY expression of anger of course can often lead to violence, or aggression, or simply behaviour that we don’t like to see in ourselves.

Ryan Martin describes on TED how anger can be healthy and good for you!

If we turn this around a little though, anger is a like a part of our SELVES that is like our internal protector. She’s a fierce warrior who is only standing up when she senses injustice or believes some part of you is going to get hurt.

If you’re prone to angry outbursts when you're in overwhelm or when your brain is in sensory overload, I get ya!

One way of getting underneath this anger (you see we often call it an umbrella emotion for a reason) is to thank this part of us, genuinely. Slow it down, tune in, and really give gratitude to this wonderful warrior, but at the same time redirecting her to a place of calm. After all she was only doing her job.

This little video I made might even explain it a little more - how to get underneath anger, how to release the story we often attach to things when we feel angry, and how to release this energy where it is held in our bodies so that we can then soften, soothe and allow the feelings underneath to make their way to the surface.

Hope you like it, if there’s any comments, questions or oppositions - I’m all ears. Drop me a line or comment below.
